Our History

Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:19-20

About Mountain View

Mountain View United Methodist Church originated with a group of 12 people attending services at the La Petite Academy in Marietta, Georgia. Their goal was to start a community church that would become a larger home for people in north Cobb County and south Cherokee County. The vision caught fire in the community, and the small group grew too large for the La Petite Academy setting and then moved their services to Lassiter High School.

Soon after moving to Lassiter High School, the church purchased land at Jamerson Road and Trickum Road. The church’s construction was started in 1986. The first building to be completed was the Fellowship Hall which then served as the church’s sanctuary. The church’s physical facilities have since grown to include a formal sanctuary, business office, fellowship hall, classrooms which serve the preschool as well as Small Group Classes, and ample parking for our growing congregation.

Mountain View United Methodist Church is a friendly church whose members share open hearts, open minds and open doors. Celebrating a diversity of people, ideas and cultures, we are enriched by our Methodist history, and we invite you to join us. We embrace our historical Methodist tradition as a Biblically based church.

Our Beliefs

We are a United Methodist Church. If you would like to learn more about the United Methodist Church and specifically about Our Beliefs, visit UMC.org

In the words of John Wesley (1703-1791)... believers through the Bible how to love God and love their neighbors as themselves (Col. 1:28; Matthew 22:37-40)

"A Methodist is...one who loves the Lord his God with all his heart, with all his soul, with all his mind, and with all his strength."

In other words, we seek to live a full and genuine life that is devoted to God.

Our Core Values

Some basic beliefs for the United Methodist Church are:

  • We have a conviction that God has mercy and love for all people
  • We believe that scripture, reason, tradition and experience are all important elements in exploring what we believe
  • We believe in a three-in-one God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit
  • We have faith in the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ
  • We celebrate the holy sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion. Our Communion Table is open to all people.

In these and many other ways, Methodism affirms the unity of all Christians in the Body of Christ. United Methodists also believe in the "primacy of grace". We believe that God, who is revealed through Jesus Christ, loves human beings and all creation. Grace is God's way of loving, accepting, forgiving, and blessing us.

The Process for Carrying Out Our Mission

We make disciples as we:
  • proclaim the gospel, seek, welcome and gather persons into the body of Christ;
  • lead persons to commit their lives to God through baptism by water and the spirit and profession of faith in Jesus Christ;
  • nurture persons in Christian living through worship, the sacraments, spiritual disciplines, and other means of grace, such as Wesley’s Christian conferencing
  • send persons into the world to live lovingly and justly as servants of Christ by healing the sick, feeding the hungry, caring for the stranger, freeing the oppressed, being and becoming a compassionate, caring presence, and working to develop social structures that are consistent with the gospel; and
  • continue the mission of seeking, welcoming and gathering persons into the community of the body of Christ.
