Give A Kid A Chance
Give A Kid A Chance is a program designed to start the school year out on the right foot for children in need.
Mountain View is one of nearly 40 local organizations (churches, businesses, ministries and civic groups) that work together to provide backpacks and school supplies for each elementary, middle and high school student who have been pre-registered with Give a Kid a Chance.
Give A Kid A Chance started in 2006 and then helped approximately 100 students and their families. Last year GAKAC served over 2,500 children and expect to assist at least 3,500 to 4,000 children in 2010. This growth is fueled by the participation not only of Mountain View in general, but in every individual that chooses to contribute.
GAKAC, through other partner organizations, offers services including vision, hearing, dental and chiropractic screenings, and haircuts. Families can shop from a collection of like-new clothing, and enjoy a fresh meal. All events and supplies are provided at no charge for the registered students and immediate family. A voucher must be presented to receive a backpack and school supplies. There are always plans to grow and improve what is made available to needy families.
